As the Salesforce Developer Lead, you will lead the internal Salesforce Delivery Team responsible for delivering technology solutions that support Guide Dogs NSW/ACT’s strategic goals. Reporting to the Application Services Manager, you will oversee the design, development, and implementation of Salesforce-based applications that enhance client engagement, operational efficiency, and business performance.
You will own the end-to-end Salesforce delivery lifecycle, from discovery and design through development, testing, deployment, and continuous improvement. This includes driving ongoing enhancements, incremental improvements, and integrations with other enterprise systems. As well as leading fundamental platform migrations and major programs of work, while ensuring adherence to best practices in architecture, security, and change management.
Your team will be supported by a Salesforce Customer Success Manager as well as Salesforce technical experts and advisers. Instructor-led virtual Salesforce Trailhead Academy classes will be made available to you and your team to contribute to your Salesforce skill development.
This role combines hands-on technical leadership with team management and solution ownership, ensuring Salesforce remains a reliable, scalable, and innovative platform for GDN.
Key Accountabilities
Salesforce Platform Ownership:
- Lead the design, development, and deployment of custom Salesforce applications using Apex, Visualforce, Lightning Components, and other Salesforce technologies.
- Oversee and prioritise Salesforce backlog and enhancements aligned with business priorities and the IT roadmap.
- Maintain high standards for code quality, testing, documentation, and version control.
Team Leadership and Collaboration:
- Lead, mentor, and develop the internal Salesforce Delivery Team, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous improvement.
- Work collaboratively with business stakeholders, project managers, and other IT teams to translate business requirements into effective Salesforce solutions.
- Conduct regular code reviews and technical sessions to ensure solution consistency and scalability.
Solution Design and Integration:
- Architect and implement integrations between Salesforce and other business systems through APIs and web services.
- Ensure data quality, security, and integrity across integrated systems.
- Champion the use of Salesforce best practices and emerging technologies.
Ongoing Enhancements and Continuous Improvement:
- Manage incremental improvements to existing Salesforce functionality based on user feedback and evolving business needs.
- Stay current with new Salesforce releases and features, recommending adoption of relevant capabilities to enhance GDN’s environment.
- Support system optimisation, performance improvements, and user experience enhancements.
Governance, Compliance, and Documentation:
- Ensure development adheres to GDN’s security, compliance, and data protection standards.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation, including design specifications, release notes, and user guides.
- Establish and enforce configuration and release management processes for the Salesforce platform
- Minimum 5 years’ experience developing and customising applications on the Salesforce platform.
- Proven experience leading or mentoring Salesforce developers or technical teams.
- Strong knowledge of Salesforce architecture, including Lightning framework, Service Cloud, and Marketing Cloud.
- Demonstrated ability to design and implement complex integrations with external systems via APIs.
- Proficiency in Apex, Visualforce, Lightning Components, SOQL, and related web technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript).
- Experience with DevOps, CI/CD processes, and agile development methodologies.
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills – able to translate technical concepts into business language.
- Experience in the not-for-profit or service delivery sector along with Nonprofit Success Pack (NPSP) and Nonprofit Cloud (NPC) is desirable.
Qualifications and Certifications
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Software Engineering, or related discipline.
- Salesforce certifications highly regarded (Platform Developer I/II, Application Architect, Administrator, or equivalent).
- Experience with Salesforce Community Cloud, DevOps tools, or CI/CD pipelines preferred.
