At Guide Dogs NSW/ACT, we put clients at the heart of everything we do, providing a quality service where and when it's needed most. We are looking for a Telepractice Assistant who will work alongside individuals with a vision impairment and our Practitioners to facilitate a seamless training learning experience for all.
Key accountabilities:
- Rapport building to support an individual with vision impairment to feel comfortable with the aids/equipment/devices used throughout the telepractice session
- Supporting the demonstration and application of aids/equipment/devices to facilitate set-up, connection and filming for a telepractice session
- Communication with Practitioners (including, Orientation and Mobility Specialists, Occupational Therapists, Orthoptists, Assistive Technology Specialists) to enable effective outcomes throughout the telepractice session.
- Supporting individuals with a vision impairment to understand how to operate devices used to facilitate telepractice, and make referrals to Assistive Technology Specialist for additional support requirements.
- Liaison with key external stakeholders to help build knowledge of Guide Dogs NSW/ACT services within the community.
- The ideal candidate will love to travel as this role requires travel by car to regional areas surrounding Wagga Wagga and overnight stays as required (Accommodation and meal allowances are provided).
Essential Knowledge & Experience:
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to communicate sensitively and respectfully with all relevant stakeholders.
- Understanding of disability inclusive practice and ability to work with a team to implement inclusive and accessible services for individuals with low vision or blindness

- Hold a current class C driver licence
- Demonstrated experience in the disability sector would be advantageous.
