Purpose of the role:
The User Researcher supports Guide Dogs NSW/ACT's Client Technology Project by conducting human-centred research across pilots. The role is responsbile for participant engagement, research planning, interviews, surveys, co-design activities, data collection, analysis and reporting to help understand client needs, test emerging concepts and inform decisions.
Key Accountabilities:
- Indentify and engage suitable participants across the three pilots, in partnership with internal teams.
- Manage participant pipelines, consent processes and scheduling across multiple concurrent workstreams.
- Engage clients sensitively, professionally and accessibly.
- Design interview guides, survey tools and research plans that support pilot objectives.
- Conduct one-on-one interviews, small group discussions and surveys in a consistent, ethical and accessible manner.
- Collect baseline and folllow-up data to measure changes in client confidence, experience and outcomes.
- Synthesis qualative findings into clear themes, insights and design principles.
- Analyse survey and cohort data to indentify patterns in barriers, motivations, usage and impact.
- Translate research findings into practical insights that support project decision-making.
- Plan and facilitate co-design sessions to validate concepts and refine approaches.
- Document co-design outcomes and translate them into clear briefs
- Prepare clear written summaries, reports and recommendations
- Communicate research progress, risks and insights in a timely and accessible way.
- Develop practical, evidence-based outputs tailored to the needs of project stakeholders.
- Apply accessible research methods and engagement approaches for clients living with low vision or blindness.
- Maintain confidentiality, consent and respectful participant engagement throughout all research activities.
Essential Experience:
- Demonstrated experience conducting user research, qualitative research, service design research or human-centred design activities.
- Experience designing and facilitating interviews, surveys, workshops or co-design sessions.
- Strong ability to engage respectfully and sensitively with diverse participants.
- Ability to synthesise data into clear insights and reommendations.
- Strong written communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear reports, summaries and briefing materials for internal and executive audiences.
- Highly organisaed, with the ability to manage multiple research activities, participant schedules and deadlines.
- Sound judgement, discretion and understanding of confidentiality, consent and ethical research practices.
- Comfort working collaboratively with project teams, practitioners and stakeholders to translate research findings into action.
Desirable Experience:
- Experience working with clients, consumers or community members in health, disability, aged care, not-for-profit or human services settings.
- Experience researching technology adoption, digital inclusion, assistive technology or client experience.
- Understanding of accessible and inclusive research practices.
- Experience using research tools, survey platforms, data analysis tools or customer insight platforms.
- Experience producing recommendations to inform pilot evaluation, investment decisions or service improvement.
