Job Description

Key Accountabilities:

  • Accurate observations and interpretations of canine behaviour inform training practices
  • Guide Dog Production KPIs are met whilst training high quality Guide Dogs to Outcome Standard
  • Behaviour modification practices are informed by an evidence-based approach applied within an ethical “least intrusive and effective behaviour intervention” framework (e.g. LIMA/Humane Hierarchy)
  • End user goals (person with vision impairment) are used to inform practises and outcomes
  • Demonstrates ability to train dog to perform tasks in accordance with IGDF and GDA outcome standards, and the ability to transfer skills and knowledge to train behaviours for other roles that the organisation may require
  • Adheres to all organisational dog welfare guidelines and frameworks
  • Complete theory work to suitable standard as required by Guide Dogs NSW/ACT Guide Dog Trainer Trainee Course
  • Complete practical skill checks to suitable standard as required by Guide Dogs NSW/ACT Guide Dog Trainer Trainee Course

Essential Knowledge & Experience:

  • Experience and confidence in dog handling, canine behaviour and training
  • Hold a drivers licence as recognised in the state of NSW in order to transport dogs
  • Able to manage the physical demands of the job which may include upwards of 10-15km of daily walking
